Frequently Asked Questions
Who are the coaches?
We have dedicated and fun coaches who have been mountain biking for a very long time. Our coaches have learned what works and what doesn’t from other successful organizations. The NICA coach licensing program involves many types of training: first aid, CPR, on-the-bike skills, and background checks for all coaches.
How much does it cost to join the team?
For the 2025/2026 season the NICA NY League charges $300 to register. This fee includes insurance for riders and registration for five races. There is a team fee of $100. Purchase of a team jersey is required to race and jerseys range from $49 to $135 depending on the style. The team and league have a limited number of need-based scholarships that can reduce the $100 and $300 registration fees.
Is this team just for top racers?
If you want to compete and stand on the podium, we will support you. If you want to shred the gnar with friends, we’ll shred too. Our goals are: supporting the rider’s goals, having fun, and keeping kids on bikes for a lifetime.
Do I have to race?
The choice to race should be made by the rider. We know that different people are motivated by different things. Some riders want to leave the other kids in the dust and rack up points come race day. Some riders want to pedal, rip, and climb at their own pace. You tell us your goals for each season and we will help you reach them.
Where will we practice?
We practice at Stewart State Forest, Camp Orange, and the Middletown Reservoir Trails.
When does the season start?
Indoor spin sessions start February, 2026 (day of the week TBD) at Pedal Goshen from 7 - 8:30 pm. Outdoor practices start when the weather permits in spring 2026. This is usually mid to late March.
When do races start?
The first race is April 19, 2026. The races start in late April and end in early June.
How many races are there in a season?
There are five races per season.
Where do we race? What are they like?
Races are located all over NY (some past venues include Peekskill, Oneonta, Liberty, Windham, and Wawarsing). We pre-ride the course on Saturday and race the course on Sunday. We have BBQs and lots of time to hang with the team and other mountain biking kids from around the state. There are hundreds of kids on bikes from teams all over NY State. Each race is an awesome mountain biking event not to be missed!
